Bank of Baroda (BoB)

Bank of Baroda UAE Review

Best for Remittances to India – But What About Everything Else?

★★★☆☆
3,5 / 5

Editor’s Verdict for Bank of Baroda

Bank of Baroda has operated in the UAE since 1974, making it the longest-standing Indian bank with full-fledged banking operations in the country. With over 50 years in the market, BoB serves primarily Indian expats, PIOs, and OCIs through 5 branches and 9 Electronic Banking Service Units (EBSUs) spread across four emirates. The bank holds a Fitch credit rating of BBB- (affirmed February 2026) and maintains a network of 45+ ATMs. This is not a mega retail bank with flashy apps or airport lounges – it is a trusted, no-frills institution built around remittances to India, competitive loan rates, and a deep understanding of the Indian diaspora’s banking needs.

✓ Best For

  • Indian expats and PIOs/OCIs who regularly send money to India via Rapid Funds2India
  • Salaried blue-collar and mid-tier workers looking for a zero-balance WPS account
  • NRIs who need to manage NRE/NRO accounts from the UAE
  • Small businesses and traders in the Indian community seeking straightforward business accounts
  • Property buyers in India who want competitive home loan rates from a bank with India-side presence

✗ Not Ideal For

  • Customers who expect a polished digital banking experience with a high-rated mobile app
  • Those seeking credit cards, cashback programs, or lifestyle rewards (BoB does not issue credit cards in the UAE)
  • Anyone who needs a wide branch network across all seven emirates (no presence in Ajman, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain)
  • Expats from non-Indian backgrounds who may find the product range too niche

Bank of Baroda Pros & Cons

✓ Pros

  • India remittance specialist
Rapid Funds2India transfers reach beneficiary accounts quickly; BoB-to-BoB corridor avoids intermediary bank charges entirely
  • Competitive loan rates
Home loan rates start at 4,60% p.a. fixed for salary account holders; personal loans from 8,00% p.a. reducing balance – notably lower than most UAE retail banks
  • Zero-balance WPS account
Blue-collar and mid-tier salaried workers can open accounts with no minimum balance requirement through the WPS scheme
  • NRI banking expertise
Dedicated NRI desks at every branch handle NRE/NRO accounts, FCNR deposits, and property loans in India
  • Low minimum balance threshold
Savings accounts require only AED 1 000 minimum balance, far below the AED 3 000 standard at most UAE banks
  • Multi-currency term deposits
Deposits accepted in AED, USD, GBP, and EUR with competitive rates (up to 3,30% p.a. for 12-month USD deposits)

✗ Cons

  • Weak mobile app
bob World UAE carries a 2,6/5 rating on the iOS App Store with just 59 reviews; the interface feels dated and basic functions like login can be unreliable
  • Limited branch footprint
No branches in Ajman, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain; only 5 full-service branches across the entire country
  • No credit cards
The bank does not issue credit cards in the UAE, which means no rewards, cashback, or travel benefits
  • Niche customer base
Products and services are heavily tailored to Indian nationals and PIOs; non-Indian expats will find the range narrow
  • Basic digital experience
Online banking is functional but lacks modern features like Apple Pay/Samsung Pay integration or real-time spending analytics
  • Branch-dependent processes
Account opening, mobile banking registration, and most service changes still require a physical branch visit

Bank of Baroda Popular Products

Premium Salary Account

Most Popular

Who it’s for: Indian expats and GCC nationals receiving a regular monthly salary in the UAE.

The Bank of Baroda Premium Salary Account is the primary hub for salaried professionals. It comes with a cheque book facility, free first-time debit card issuance, internet banking, and mobile banking access. The account is available in AED only and supports joint accounts with “Jointly” or “Any one only” operating instructions.

Key features include remittance to India through ATM, internet banking, or mobile banking. The account is open to Indian nationals, PIOs, and GCC nationals. Documents required are straightforward: passport with valid visa, Emirates ID, labour contract, NOC from sponsor, two photos, and tenancy contract.

Watch out: Debit card replacement costs AED 25. The account requires a branch visit for opening – there is no fully digital onboarding process available.

Baroda Happiness Twin Account (Current & Savings)

Best for NRI Remittances

The Baroda Happiness Twin Account bundles a current account (in AED) and a savings account (in Indian Rupees via NRE) into one product. For workers who need to hold UAE dirhams for local expenses while simultaneously routing savings to India, this is the most practical solution in the BoB lineup.

Available for Indian nationals and PIOs with a monthly salary or income below AED 4 000, this account earns 0,40% p.a. interest on the savings portion (subject to change). It includes debit card, internet banking, and mobile banking. Remittance to India is built directly into the product via ATM, internet banking, or mobile banking. You will need a PAN card and Aadhaar card in addition to standard UAE KYC documents.

Reality check: No cheque book facility is available on this account. If you need cheques for rental payments or other transactions, you will need a separate Current Account or Premium Salary Account.

Zero Balance WPS Savings Account

For Blue-Collar Workers

Who it’s for: Salaried employees registered under the UAE’s Wage Protection System who need a no-frills account to receive wages and send money home.

The WPS Savings Account has no minimum balance requirement at all – your employer transfers your salary through WPS, and you can access the funds via debit card, ATM, internet banking, or mobile banking. The account earns 0,40% p.a. interest and supports Rapid Funds2India remittances directly from the app or ATM.

This is the most stripped-down account in the BoB product range: no cheque book, no joint account option, AED currency only, and just one free cash withdrawal per year. But for workers who primarily need to receive wages and send money to India, it does the job without fees eating into their salary.

Trade-off: Only one free cash withdrawal per year. Additional withdrawals may incur charges. Joint accounts are not permitted on this product.

Bank of Baroda Fees & Charges

Knowing the fee structure upfront helps avoid surprises. Bank of Baroda publishes its full schedule of charges on its website (Annexure 1 for individuals, Annexure 2 for non-individuals, effective April 3, 2024):

Minimum Balance Fee (Savings Account)
AED 1 000 threshold
Charges apply if your savings account balance drops below AED 1 000. The exact fee amount is outlined in the bank’s schedule of charges. The Zero Balance WPS Account is exempt from any minimum balance requirement.
Debit Card Replacement
AED 25
First-time issuance is free for Premium Salary Account holders. Any replacement due to customer request is charged at AED 25 per card.
Premature Deposit Closure Penalty
1,00% deduction
If you break a term deposit before maturity, the bank deducts 1,00% from the contractual interest rate for the period actually held. If the net rate turns negative after applying the penalty, zero interest is paid.
Home Loan Early Settlement
1,00% + VAT (max AED 10 000)
Applies to the outstanding home loan balance at the time of early repayment. Capped at AED 10 000 plus applicable VAT.
Loan Processing Fees
1,00% of loan amount
Applies to home loans (max AED 25 000 + VAT), personal loans (min AED 500 + VAT), and car loans (min AED 500, max AED 2 500). Takeover home loan processing: 0,25% (max AED 10 000 + VAT).
Cheque Book Issuance
Subject to AECB report
Cheque book issuance for current accounts requires a satisfactory AECB (Al Etihad Credit Bureau) report. Not all accounts include cheque book facility – savings accounts and WPS accounts do not offer cheques.

The bob World UAE app (previously M-Connect Plus UAE) is the primary mobile banking channel for Bank of Baroda customers. It covers essential banking functions including balance enquiry, fund transfers, Rapid Funds to India, FD/RD opening, cheque book requests, and branch/ATM locator. The app weighs just 74 MB and supports English, Arabic, Hindi, and Gujarati.

What works well: The Rapid Funds2India transfer function operates directly from the app without needing a branch visit. Account balances and transaction history load reliably. Fund transfers to linked BoB accounts work smoothly. The in-app branch and ATM locator is useful for finding the nearest service point.

What frustrates users: Registration requires a physical branch visit to submit a form and receive a 4-digit mPIN via SMS – there is no self-service activation. Users on the App Store report frequent login failures, slow loading, and error screens during routine operations. The interface looks and feels outdated compared to apps from ENBD, ADCB, or Mashreq. No Apple Pay or Samsung Pay integration.

Online Banking

The internet banking portal at bobibanking.com provides account management, statements, and transfer capabilities. It functions as a web-based extension of the mobile app with reliable but basic functionality. Complex tasks – account closure, address changes, new product applications – still require branch visits. Non-resident account holders get view-only access to internet banking.
