Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) Review
The UAE’s Only Designated RMB Clearing Bank?
Editor’s Verdict for ABC
Agricultural Bank of China Limited (ABC, 中国农业银行) is one of China’s “Big Four” state-owned commercial banks and ranks among the world’s top 5 banks by total assets (over USD 5,9 trillion as of 2025). In the UAE, ABC operates through two Dubai-based branches that together form one of the most important corridors for China-Middle East trade and investment finance. The Dubai Branch, opened on 10 May 2017, is the only PBoC-designated RMB Clearing Bank in the entire United Arab Emirates.
✓ Best For
- Chinese corporates “going global” or operating under the Belt and Road Initiative in the GCC region

- Banks and financial institutions requiring an onshore UAE RMB clearing counterparty
- Treasurers needing AED/CNH and USD/CNH spot, forwards and swaps
- Family offices, sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors seeking Chinese capital-market access through the DIFC Branch
✗ Not Ideal For
- UAE residents looking for retail current/savings accounts, debit cards or salary transfer (ABC does not offer retail banking in the UAE)
- Expats wanting an ATM or branch network across the emirates – ABC has zero ATMs and only two Dubai offices
- Customers needing consumer credit cards, personal loans, mortgages or chequebooks
- SMEs without a clear China trade angle – other UAE banks offer more competitive SME packages

ABC Popular Products
RMB Clearing Services
UAE Exclusive
Who it’s for: UAE banks and corporates settling cross-border payments with mainland China.
ABC Dubai is the People’s Bank of China-designated RMB Clearing Bank in the UAE. Local UAE banks can open CNY/CNH nostro accounts directly with ABC Dubai, removing the need to route through Hong Kong or London correspondents.
Same-day onshore RMB settlement, reduced FX risk, and lower correspondent banking fees on the China-UAE corridor where annual bilateral trade now exceeds USD 95 billion. The service covers MT103 customer transfers, MT202 bank-to-bank transfers and RMB purchase-and-sale flows.
Corporate & Trade Finance
Core Offering
Who it’s for: UAE-incorporated trading companies importing from China, Chinese corporates expanding into the GCC, and BRI project sponsors.
Multi-currency bilateral loans for working capital and project financing, syndicated facilities, import and export letters of credit, standby LCs, bank guarantees and supply-chain finance. LCs can be negotiated in CNY rather than USD, removing one FX leg on China-UAE trade.
Bilingual (English / Mandarin) relationship teams handle documentation, reducing translation friction with Chinese counterparties.
Treasury & Financial Markets
For Corporates
Who it’s for: Corporate treasurers needing the CNH leg priced onshore.
AED/CNH and USD/CNH spot, forwards and swaps, plus G10 and major Asian-currency FX, money-market deposits and RMB purchase-and-sale for cross-border RMB settlement. Pricing reflects ABC’s role as RMB Clearing Bank, so bid-offer on CNH crosses is typically tight for corporate-size tickets.
DIFC Branch – Investment Services
DFSA Regulated
Who it’s for: Sovereign wealth funds, family offices, asset managers and other DFSA Professional Clients seeking Chinese capital-market access.
Through the DFSA-regulated DIFC Branch, ABC offers accepting deposits, providing credit, dealing as principal or agent in investments (shares, debentures, futures, options, structured products, warrants and units), arranging deals, arranging custody, and advising on financial products and credit.
ABC Things to Watch & Fee Notes
ABC does not publish a retail tariff sheet because it has no retail customers in the UAE. For corporate and institutional clients, the following items deserve attention before signing on:
Digital Experience
ABC UAE Corporate Online Banking
ABC does not offer a public-facing retail mobile app in the UAE. Corporate clients use the ABC UAE corporate online banking portal at ebank.uae.abchina.com (login credentials provided after onboarding).
What works well: Multi-currency account overview, RMB and AED transfers, SWIFT MT103 instruction submission, trade-finance status tracking and standard statement download work reliably for corporate workflows.
What frustrates users: The interface is utilitarian compared to leading UAE consumer banks – it is built for corporate treasurers, not for casual mobile use. Some advanced functions (LC issuance, large transfers) still require email or in-person confirmation with your relationship manager.
Group Digital Channels
The ABC group operates its own consumer mobile banking apps in mainland China, Hong Kong and other markets, but those products are not licensed for UAE residents. UAE clients with parallel China-based accounts can use the parent ABC app for their China-side balances.

FAQ – Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) UAE
Does Agricultural Bank of China offer personal accounts in the UAE?
No. ABC operates only wholesale, corporate and institutional banking in the UAE through its Dubai Branch, plus DFSA-regulated investment services through its DIFC Branch. There are no retail current accounts, savings accounts, debit cards or consumer credit cards available locally.
Can a non-resident open an account with ABC in the UAE?
Only corporate non-residents with a clear commercial reason are onboarded – typically Chinese parent companies of UAE subsidiaries, or UAE corporates engaged in China trade – and subject to full KYC. ABC does not open accounts for individual non-residents in the UAE.
What is the SWIFT code of Agricultural Bank of China in the UAE?
The Dubai Branch uses ABOCAEAA (or ABOCAEAAXXX in 11-character format). The DIFC Branch uses ABOCAEAD (or ABOCAEADXXX). See our dedicated page for the full ABC SWIFT code breakdown.
How long does an international transfer to ABC UAE take?
RMB transfers cleared through the Dubai Branch as RMB Clearing Bank typically settle the same business day. Standard SWIFT transfers in USD, EUR or AED take 1-3 business days depending on the originating bank and the time of submission relative to cut-off.
Is ABC Dubai the same as Bank of China Dubai?
No. They are two completely separate Chinese state-owned banks. Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) and Bank of China (BoC) are both members of China’s “Big Four” but operate independently with different licences, SWIFT codes and branches.
How do I become a corporate customer of ABC Dubai?
Contact the Dubai Branch at adminuae@abchina.com or +971 4 567 6901. Be ready to provide your trade licence, Memorandum of Association, UBO declaration, audited financials, and details of your China-related business activity. Onboarding typically takes 4-8 weeks.
Does ABC issue letters of credit for China trade?
Yes. Import and export LCs, standby LCs and bank guarantees in CNY, USD, AED and EUR are core products of the Dubai Branch’s trade-finance team. LCs can be issued and negotiated in CNY directly, removing one FX leg on China-UAE trade.
Can I send RMB / CNY to China through ABC Dubai?
Yes. As the designated RMB Clearing Bank for the UAE, ABC Dubai is the most direct route for AED-to-CNY corporate payments. Your local UAE bank can route the RMB leg through ABC Dubai’s clearing facility.
Is the DIFC Branch regulated separately?
Yes. The DIFC Branch is a separately licensed entity supervised by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), with reference number F001426 and a licence date of 12 February 2013. It can only deal with clients classified as Professional Clients under DFSA rules.
Does ABC UAE offer Islamic banking?
ABC does not currently offer a standalone Sharia-compliant product suite in the UAE. Customers needing Islamic finance products typically engage a UAE Islamic bank alongside their ABC RMB-clearing or trade-finance relationship.
How do I file a complaint against ABC in the UAE?
Submit your complaint in writing to the branch (adminuae@abchina.com for the Dubai Branch, adminae@abchina.com for the DIFC Branch). If unresolved within 30 days, Dubai Branch matters can be escalated to the Central Bank of the UAE’s Sanadak ombudsman, and DIFC Branch matters can be escalated to the DFSA.
Does ABC have a mobile banking app in the UAE?
No public-facing mobile app is offered for UAE customers. Corporate clients use the ABC UAE online banking portal at ebank.uae.abchina.com, with login credentials provided after onboarding.
Are deposits with ABC UAE protected?
The Dubai Branch is supervised by the Central Bank of the UAE and follows the prudential rules applicable to foreign-bank branches; the DIFC Branch follows DFSA prudential rules. There is no UAE-wide deposit-insurance scheme equivalent to the US FDIC – standard CBUAE depositor-protection arrangements for foreign-bank branches apply.
